Hershey's FINALLY releases gluten-free list

on Thursday, 12 April 2012. Posted in In The News

It's been a long time coming...

Super exciting news from Hershey's! They have finally released a list of their gluten-free products, which much to my delight includes Skor!!! In addition to the gluten-free list, Hershey's has Kosher and Sugar Free lists. The company notes on the site:

"Hershey is committed to providing products that meet your dietary needs, and many people today are interested in gluten-free foods.

A food bearing a gluten-free claim does not contain the protein from wheat, rye, barley, spelt, kamut, triticole, farina, vital gluten semolina, malt vinegar or protein derivatives of these foods.

For your convenience, the current products listed below have been fully evaluated and qualify as gluten free using standards proposed by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Please note this list is not all inclusive as we have other gluten-free confections.

The best way to determine if our products contain a gluten ingredient is to read our product label. This label includes an accurate, current listing of the ingredients in our products. Because, on occasion, the list of ingredients can change, we strongly encourage you to check the ingredient label on the package each time before you make a purchase."

Attention Gluten Free Canadians: BIG NEWS!

Kellogg's Gluten Free Rice Krispies Coming to Canada!

We were the first to announce (and snag our hands on) a box of gluten free Rice Krispies, about this time last year. The one thing I heard repeatedly from readers was that they wish it was available in Canada. And now it is! Kellogg's announced yesterday!

"With an increasing number of Canadians being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, experiencing sensitivity to gluten or choosing to follow a gluten-free diet, consumers are looking for more great tasting gluten-free food choices and we are filling that need," said Johanne Trudeau, Director,  Nutrition, Kellogg Canada. Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® Brown Rice gluten-free cereal is produced in a separate facility that has been making gluten-free products for nearly a decade. Each batch of product is tested to ensure its gluten-free status.

This is VERY exciting news for when I go "home" to Montreal!!

Chick-fil-A Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets

on Tuesday, 10 January 2012. Posted in In The News

More gluten free fast food news.

If I'm ever in a bind and need to eat ASAP, I'll look for a Chick-fil-A and get the chicken and fruit salad (really yummy). But now I can add something else to the list of emergency fast food... gluten free grilled chicken nuggets... off the kids menu!

Burger King fries are now prepared gluten free.

on Tuesday, 03 January 2012. Posted in In The News

Fast food lovers rejoice... but proceed with caution.

Burger King recently gave their french fries a makeover and the ingredients are all gluten free. They are: Potatoes, Soybean Oil, Modified Potato Starch, Rice Flour, Salt, Leavening (Disodium Dihydrogen Pyrophosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate), Dextrose, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate to Preserve Natural Color.

The first change to the french fries since 1998, the fries are naturally gluten free but as always, if you are going to order them, PROCEED with caution. Now, I'm not the biggest advocate of fast food but it's always good to know these things are available if you're in a bind. Just be careful of cross contamination.

So, will you try the new Burger King french fries?

Gluten Free Football!!!!!

I love football. I love going to football games and the one thing usually missing from football stadiums is gluten free goodies. The Miami Dolphins stadium doesn’t have much for those of us who are gluten intolerant so I usually go prepared but the Green Bay Packers are solving that problem for their gluten free fans. SO jealous!!

Gluten free grilled cheese??

Holy yumminess! For those that don’t know, I work in the advertising world with things like QR codes and Digital Signage. Last night, upon doing my usual scan of the web for industry trends I came across multiple articles about a new venture by the Flip Camera inventor, Jonathon Kaplan. He’s decided to take his technology background and pair it with everyone’s love for grilled cheese. The restaurant: The Melt. Because who doesn’t love a grilled cheese and soup?

NEW Gluten free products to hit the market!

on Friday, 26 August 2011. Posted in In The News

Gluten free products for your home.

New gluten free products to hit the market! First, a new gluten free flour being sold by Williams Sonoma. Cup4Cup Gluten Free Flour was developed exclusively for Williams-Sonoma by Chef Thomas Keller. The NYTimes wrote a review of the product earlier this week and I promptly went online to place my order. It's currently sold exclusively on Williams Sonoma website for $19.95 for a 3lb bag. I'll let you all know when I try it but would love to hear if any of you bake anything yummy with it.

The second new product comes from Gorton Seafood frozen foods. According to a press release, "Gorton’s Seafood has announced that its Grilled line of fish is now gluten free, with a variety of flavors and grilled fish species including Grilled Salmon, Grilled Tilapia, All Natural Grilled Fillets made from Alaska Pollock, and Grilled Haddock. Each fillet is expertly flame-grilled and seasoned, with the same taste millions have come to know and love, but with the added assurance that they are now gluten free. Procedures have been implemented at the production location to avoid the risk of cross-contamination, and there is ongoing monitoring and testing to ensure that Gorton’s Grilled Fish is gluten free." Personally, I'm not a frozen fish fan (living in S. FL kind of makes you a fish snob!) but it's good to know there are more gluten free options available!!

SmartGel flavors include orange and sugar-free orange, strawberry and sugar-free strawberry, tropical and sugar-free tropical and cherry. McDonald's Goes Gluten Free (en español)

Would you like a Big Mac with that Spanish sangria??

Credit to Travel Gluten Free for tweeting about this!

I will be heading to France & Spain in a few short weeks and am looking forward to all of the naturally gluten free food I will get to eat while abroad... seafood, cheeses, chocolates... and wine! But, I must say, this bit of news kind of makes me want to pay a visit to good 'ole McDonald's while we are in Spain.

Please note: I am not condoning eating McDonald's on a regular basis if you should travel to Spain, or here in the States. For me, this would be a one time taste test should I find myself in a food predicament.

Update: I had the burger & bun in Barcelona. More bun than burger but was a fun experience, nonetheless.
